When shopping downtown Riverside, you can't miss the magnificent structure of the Mission Inn. Frank Miller built the Inn between 1902 and 1932. He then spent years collecting art, furniture and hundreds of bells from around the world that now adorn the rooms, halls and courtyards of his hotel.
For a taste of authentic Cajun cooking and the best sweet potato pie in the Inland, walk across the street to Gram's Mission BBQ. Tour one of the many art museums and galleries such as the Life Arts Building or the Riverside Art Museum. The Municipal Auditorium hosts a wide variety of performing arts and musical entertainment. In the summer, Wednesday nights are dedicated to a Farmer's Market and live entertainment. Trick or treaters can take a spooky tour on Halloween, and the famous Dickens Festival calls Downtown home every winter. -- Jeannie Corona
Visit the Jurupa Mountain Cultural Center to learn about fossils, minerals and rocks of the Jensen Quarry. It’s located at 7621 Granite Hill Dr. at Camino Real. Telephone is 909-685-5818.
In downtown Riverside, aside from the historic Mission Inn, you will find three citrus trees at the corner of Arlington and Magnolia Avenues, that are a part of history.
One of them is the Parent Navel Orange Tree, which came to Riverside from Brazil in 1870.
This tree was the start of navel oranges in the USA and is said to be the "parent" of all Washington Navel Orange trees on the West Coast. But the sign there doesn't say which one of the three trees it is. The City of Riverside was built upon its flourishing citrus industry in the 19th century.
